Assignment #13: Research and Inspiration

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exquisite_corpse

Exquisite corpse, also known as exquisite cadaver is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.

Where did it come from?

The technique was invented by Surrealists and is similar to an old parlour game called Consequences in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold it to conceal part of the writing, and then pass it to the next player for a further contribution. Surrealism principal founder AndrĂ© Breton reported that it started in fun, but became playful and eventually enriching. Breton said the diversion started about 1925, but Pierre Reverdy wrote that it started much earlier, at least before 1918.
In a variant now known as picture consequences, instead of sentences, portions of a person were drawn.

What is surrealism?
A 20th-century avant-garde movement in art and literature that sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind.

Crazy, fun, humorous, fashionable, modern

I like this picture because I find the hula skirt and the mustache funny.

I like this one because the face is really funny; however it is a little too "out there" for me.

The Creative Process

Why do we need a process?
It  improves consistency, time management, raise the quality of your work, communicate more effectively and in a more professional manor

STEPS OF THE CREATIVE PROCESS
1) RESEARCH:  The more you know the better the project will be, GET INSPIRED

2) BRAINSTORMING/INSPIRATION:  Striving to be unique and innovative, new approach, fresh, use adjectives to describe the project, ask yourselves questions
-What kind of message am i trying to communicate?
-Who is my audience?
-What kind of color/style will work for this audience?

3) SKETCH:  thumbnails--quick sketch to get your thoughts onto paper

4) EXECUTION:  Implement your ideas into composition

5) CRITIQUE AND REVISE:  take a step back and look at your design with an objective eye

Photo Composition

Snapshot:  quick shot, often spontaneous, taken to record a moment in time
Photograph:  an image taken with care or thought

Rules of Composition:
1)  Rule of Thirds:  imaginary lines drawn dividing the frame of the camera into thirds (grid); subject not in center; horizon needs to be top of bottom; fill entire frame

2) Leading Lines:  use the lines created within the foreground or background of the composition to lead the viewer's eye through the photo

3) Point of View:  change the way your subject is perceived by changing the camera position
-Tall:  Point camera upward
-Small:  Point camera down

4)Simplicity:  keep your background simple and clear of clutter, mood and effectiveness of a photo can be altered by what is in the background
